Over the River and Around the World to Grandmother’s House We Go
What I had originally imagined to be a week-long trip to see the in-laws had become much more. Much MUCH more. You see, my in-laws live in Guatemala, which is a good thing. Wait, that didn’t sound right. It’s a good thing because it means we got to visit Guatemala, a country we had never seen. But that’s just it, how often do you find yourself in the middle of Central America with a free place to stay? So our week-long trip turned into a two and a half week-long trip. 
Because we went to El Salvador. And Honduras. And when I say two and a half weeks what I really mean is THREE and a half weeks. Because at the last minute we had the opportunity to go on a cruise to the Caribbean. You know, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, the Bahamas, and such.
The educational value of such a trip to our kids is priceless. While I believe our school is above average in teaching about other countries and cultures, the things our children were able to see and experience can not be duplicated in a classroom. But the state board of education has that little requirement about kids being in school, so our globetrotting eventually came to an end. I have enough stories to keep me writing for a year, and the family has made memories that will last a lifetime. What are your favorite family travels?

That sounds awesome. Last year around this time my wife and I were in Quetzaltenango taking spanish lessons at a language school. Further south than Antigua, I think higher elevation too, it was quite chilly but absolutely amazing. You are lucky to have a place to go when you get there!
